Inclusion
GIS has a dedicated team of professionals who work collaboratively to support the additional learning needs of students who are identified as Able, Gifted and Talented (AGT), who are early stage or new English learners (EAL) or who have Special Educational Needs (SEN). We also have a school counsellor who works with students to address any barriers to their positive mental health and emotional wellbeing. The team is led by the Head of Inclusion who is also the Inclusion Champion. All students have access to support that is universal; high-quality teaching and learning that is differentiated with ongoing and timely assessments which inform of any further provision needed. Some students also benefit from more specialist or targeted support and development.
Our AGT programme offers students the opportunity to participate in curricular and extracurricular activities that ensured that they are challenged in line with their ability.
Our EAL support ensures that students who are at the early stages of learning English develop the language to express and display the essential IB learner profile skills.
Our SEN support develops students to specifically address any barriers to learning and to ensure that they make progress in line with their potential. Please see the Dubai Inclusive Education Policy for more information about Inclusive education in Dubai.
Social, emotional wellbeing
Our school counsellor works with students both individually and also in groups, depending on the case. The aim of this work is to promote student wellbeing, where barriers to this have been identified, and to support students, staff and parents to work together to overcome these barriers.
